Print Design: Wine.com Leveraging unique designs to drive response.
Standing out in a crowded mailbox takes more than a good offer — it takes smart format design. For Shutterfly’s photo book campaigns, I was engaged to help design high-impact direct mail formats. One was a Giant Post Card measuring 11.5″ × 5.75″ that physically dominated the mailbox. We also created a Left Trailing Edge piece whose perforated coupons extend beyond the card’s edge, creating a tactile “grab me” effect proven to drive response rates. We had to submit templates to the US Postal Service for approval before they would accept them into the bulk mail system. As always, we pair bold Shutterfly branding with personalized offers to turn a piece of mail into an irresistible call to action.
Shutterfly Giant Post Card
We tested user engagement with a Giant Post Card direct mail treatment for Shutterfly.
Shutterfly Left Trailing Edge
We worked with the printer to design a postcard that would drive the response rate to the campaign. The Left Trailing Edge concept had to be approved by the US Post Office before they would accept it for bulk mailing, but the new format led to an increase of 12% over traditional formats with identical offers.
